“Success is not final, failure is not fatal,
it is the courage to continue that counts.”
-Winston S. Churchill
Central to our mission is affording access to young adults who would not otherwise have the resources for treatment. Particularly gratifying is when we hear that our efforts have made a difference and that our beneficiaries are prospering.
Please take a moment to learn about Drake, Felix, Alexis and Zoe’s progress.
Drake
After completing wilderness treatment, Drake went to a short-term aftercare program and then stepped down to an IOP back in their home town. Drake reengaged with school and was doing very well. After a year at home, Drake started to have challenges again from a mental health perspective, but remains sober at this point. Drake is currently in a short-term therapeutic program to address ongoing mental health issues and is expected to return home in the next 30- 45 days. While struggles continue, we are proud of Drake’s success in maintaining their sobriety.
Felix
Felix has continued to work hard and face his challenges head on. Throughout his time in wilderness and residential treatment, he has worked diligently to get to the root causes of his issues. He has been able to reengage in school and is back up to grade level at this point. After 7 months in residential treatment, Felix was able to move to a smaller program with a more intense level of clinical intervention to focus on recently uncovered and newly diagnosed mental health challenges. Throughout his time in treatment, he has maintained sobriety and has over a year under his belt!
Alexis
Alexis has done amazingly well in her transitional living program. After multiple treatment interventions over the past 3 years, this is the place where we have seen the most success for her. She has been able to learn the life skills necessary for independence, while continuing to address her issues of attachment, impulsivity, trauma and substance use. With the help of the Ryan Perry Foundation and multiple other scholarships, Alexis has been able to stay in placement months beyond what was anticipated. Alexis’s team and family report that this is the happiest and healthiest they have seen Alexis in many, many years.
zoe
Just about a month ago, our Consultant Sarah McGuiness received an email from Zoe’s mom. She let Sarah know that Zoe had just celebrated 2 years sober! Zoe credits her time in treatment and the support of her family in helping get her to this point. Mom let Sarah know that Zoe certainly would have emailed me herself, but she was a bit busy at the moment as she was settling into her freshman year at college! She is currently working to support herself and pay for her schooling. She received some scholarships as well and is very proud of her progress. She told her mom that she couldn’t believe that she made it this far; two years ago she wasn’t sure she would be alive to finish high school, and now she is stepping into college! She is now able to be excited about her future; in her words, “it’s the most incredible feeling ever!”
